Healthy Dog Food: What you Should Feed Your Dog

You might think it's okay to give your furry friend a treat from your kitchen table but are there foods you shouldn't be giving your dog?

Today is National Dog Day and many of you will be spending a lot of time with your dogs at home. Many of you might feed your dogs any kind of food from the kitchen but there are some foods your dogs should not eat:

Ice Cream

Have you ever seen a child give their ice cream cone to their dog? Some dogs have no problems digesting milk and dairy products but some have problems because of Lactose. Lactose is a nutrient in milk. According to pets.webmd.com, Milk and milk-based products can cause diarrhea and other digestive problems, as well as set up food allergies.

Grapes & Raisins

Grapes and raisins have been often used as treats for dogs. However, while it may be nutritious for us, it can be toxic to dogs.  According to aspca.org, grapes and raisins have recently been associated with the development of kidney failure in dogs. Also some pets may eat these fruits and experience no ill effects--but then eat them later on and become very ill. Repeated vomiting can be an early sign.

Raw Meat & Fish

Do you give your furry friends food before you cook it? Well that might not be  a great idea. Raw meat and raw fish, even raw eggs, can contain bacteria that causes food poisoning. Salmonella and E. Coli germs can always be trouble with raw meats.

Moldy Foods

If you wouldn't eat it, neither should your dog. A wide variety of molds grow on food. Some produce toxins called tremorgenic mycotoxins, which can cause serious or even life-threatening problems if ingested by dogs. So if you are one of those people who gives your pet old foods, than you might want to stop.

Be careful and make sure your dog never gets access to these foods.
